Redesign to Feature New Data Portal

The Technology Research in the Academic Community product looks at technology use across the two most important audiences in higher education—students and faculty.

In October 2016, we launched a new data portal that allows colleges and universities to review their student and faculty survey data and benchmark their results against self-selected peer groups or industry data.

On the welcome page (Figure 1), we used buttons near the top of the page to communicate the primary actions with the assumption that returning users would want to quickly access the product end points. For new visitors, we included a quick introduction to the product and its value and a link to learn more.

We also wanted to showcase the value of the research, communicate the survey timeline, and recognize the sponsor. We showcased the value by sharing highlights from the 2016 student study and the reach and longevity of the research.

The about page (Figure 2) was redesigned to better communicate the research product and it's benefits. We added resources for completing the survey, information about the portal, a link to the portal with information about signing up for the survey, the timeline, and sponsor recognition.
